Well, would you believe walks with gnomes & ferries? These are all on one street just a few minutes from home. The bottom row of pics is from the sea-wall, just to how what a dull, overcast, west coast looks like.

From the area formerly (and perhaps always) known as Ogden Point, we walked across the street from home to watch the trucks pull out of the mustering parking lot in the newly re-named Breakwater District. It was warmer and drier than the last time I did this, 6 or 8 years ago. I think my go-to Canon pocket camera did better with the video clips than it did with hand hedl still pics. Quality Foods, Eagle Creek location. Good, cheap lunch. AND, a bonus cheap poinsettia! The bonus bonus is having a Smiley bag from 4 Square grocers in New Zealand to pack out purchases in.
Peacocks in Beacon Hill park. A male merganser displaying inside the breakwater. I did not realize it at the time, but it seems he was wasting effort in a dead mate floating limply nearby. :( My walk in my WILD outfit continued on to see neighborhood roses, and a monkey-puzzle tree that think it is Spring, not late Fall. The murder of crows was a James Bay Square. The Christmas goof on a penny-farthing bike was at Home Sense.
Any blooms in December in Canada are good. Period. The Good Things consignment store in Oak Bay is a busy place to be on a Saturday morning. Beacon Hill Park was not so busy. We interrupted a meeting of the notorious Black Squirrels. It was the only time I have seen six of them in a group (gang?). The fluffy tailed rats scattered when Audrey & Gracie arrived. Ducks & peacocks also got the little dog excited! Took the long way home (again) after running errands in Langford. Rather large flocks of wild ducks on the Esquimlt Lagoon.
A long term noodle-house on this way home has re-opened as a Korean restaurant called XIN. Good first impressions. It is on the list for a return visit in the new year. Tonight was the Marina Light Up celebration in the Inner Harbour. It was cool, verging on cold, but I walked down for the lights (and the free hot chocolate!) We went back to the Bay Centre today and gawked at the newly completed feature at the Festival of Trees. It looks all snowy & cold, but it is in-door warm - just the way I like it!
Later in the day we wound up at Hillside all & saw Santa on his tugboat-sleigh, accompanied by flying killer whales. West coast traditional?!? It was clear & cool, so we drove up Mount Tolme to gander at Mount Baker. Good view of it, AND all the minor peaks! Fruit & veggie run to The Root Cellar - love their jute/hessian bags & slogans. Environment Canada is forecasting winds of 70 to 90 km/hr later today, so I went for a neighborhood walk before it got too blustery. One of our local bushy-tailed rats was foraging for his fruit & veg, too!
While we were away in New Zealand, our neighborhood name of Ogden Point was gentrified, and is now The Breakwater District. The wind off the water still bites as hard as it used to! :) |
