Up before the sun, as usual, and our first flight is not until 9 PM. Last lunch at Green Leaf Bistro. Thanks to Al & Sam for getting us to the airport. Pictures from the Vancouver Airport. Picked up JJ & Barb to take them on a Bob & Jan tour day. Stared with a quick peek at Craigdarroch Castle, and then a walk around the grounds at our Government House (official residence of the Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia). Across Rockland Avenue from there is a little know (but wonderful) gnome home tree! Lunch at Green Leaf Bistro followed by a brief shopping stop at Capital Iron before stops at Esquimalt Lagoon causeway to visit the driftwood Ent and to let Barb fake-feed one of the local mute swans. Then on to Fort Rod Hill NP & Fisgard lighthouse - black-tailed deer, dolphins, seals & otter! We do not ALWAYS eat out! The burger is a home-made creation. Thankful for turkey & ham dinner at the Prairie Inn, wonderful friends to spend a most excellent day with, Island View Park, Sidney By The Sea, and beach glass!
The first Thanksgiving weekend turkey dinner. Only $8 a plate at Quality Foods, View Royal. Most excellent!!
My square glass frame project is still in progress - sort of. I'm trying out one of Jan's craft glues to piece it together. I will leave it until next year to see where inspiration takes me.
Tried out Chuck's in Sidney for lunch - huge burger & a massive pile of fries. All good, but way more than I could eat. I have ever left that much food on my plate! Will order differently next time, and share! Walked out to see the Explorer of the Seas - the last ship this year. Carried on & went to Fisherman's Wharf. Now that the busiest of our tourist seasons is over we can once again get into some of our favorite eateries. The Jam for breakkie! (Only had to wait on the street for a few minutes for someone to pay their bill & have the table cleared!)
Driving around i noticed that Mount Baker was clear, so we checked out a Cordova Bay beach access we had never used before. Mom' Cafe in Sooke - heard about it for years - finally tried it today. I can see why the locals like it. Walked around the grounds of Sooke Harbour House and their amazing driftwood creations. A super bonus was a cooperative hummingbird that let me get photos & a video with my little pocket Sony camera. The parking lot at Whiffin Spit was jammed, but on our second visit we grabbed a spot & went for a short walk. I have started to call my neighborhood walks 'training' to get into 'Park' shape before my return to OZ.
There are several choices of stairs or ramp to get to the beaches from Dallas Rd. Fonyo Beach has a nice paved path between the shore & the cliff. Incoming Coho meets outgoing Clipper. Today had one of the clearest views of Race Rocks Lighthouse that I have ever seen (last pic). See, there is this thing about working with glass - when it does not break where you want it to, the pieces are still available for other uses. Creativity will continue...
