Nice name for the 9 km shared path around the Victoria International Airport. I snapped these info sign pics along the route as we rode our bikes. It is a nice easy loop, and on a clear day the sights include Mount Baker.
It was warmish and calm enough to capture reflections at Fisherman's Wharf this morning.
After lunch we were driving in Colwood & noticed Mount Baker from a spot we have never seen it from before. It was on of those OMG moments. It looks pale & faded in the picture, but the live impact was WOW. The afternoon warmed up enough for me to take the bicycle out for a shakedown ride around Beacon Hill Park. The last picture is the view from Cook Street looking across Dallas Road to the Olympic Mountains. Dawn walk along Dallas Road to Beacon Hill Park. Camas lilies & dewdrops on meadow grasses in the early morning sunshine. Peacocks roost in trees of the Children's Zoo. I aim to capture images of peacocks in flight.
This was the morning of a half-marathon and a 10 km race/fun-walk. As usual, the race route includes our street. We manage to get the car out of the yard and away from the course. I thought we were free, but I thought wrong. Smack in the middle of downtown we were delayed for 45 minutes as the race route mucked up all major roads out of the city.
Well that made us late for taking advantage of my VIP early entry to the Toy & Hobby Fair at Pearkes Arena. No worries though, we had a good look around and left before the crowds crowded us. Next up was the Butterfly Gardens for another quicky visit. Driving through Brentwood Bay, we saw dogwood trees in bloom. Dogwood is the official floral emblem of the Province of British Columbia so we stopped for pictures. Back home, I walked over to the cruise ship terminal for the street-hockey competition, mainly because it was happening on the other side of what is usually behind security gates. I saw it as a chance to see the view from the point of view of cruise ship tourists coming for a short visit to Victoria. SO much more than butterflies. Today there are many giant atlas moth adults, but these beauties are behind a mesh/screen making photography challenging. Lots of butterflies being very active - ready flitty. Had to be quick to get shots when they landed. Bids, amphibians, reptiles, fish. Ex-British now Canadian navy submarine, infamous for fire that killed one soldier & injured others who were delivering it to Canada after purchase, is using the cruise ship terminal across the street to do some dive tests to see if it leaks. I kid you not!
Two bald eagles on top of a parking lot light standard look on. I suppose the sub might look to them like a big black fish?? Tourist season has not really started yet, but horse carriage rides are available. Speaking of seasons, green tree leaves are taking over from pink cherry blossoms as the major color on some streets. |
