Drove up to the Malahat Chalet for breakfast. The big buzz on the patio as we arrived was patrons talking about having just seen whales in the water below the deck - between Brentwood Bay and Mill Bay. I did not see any whales, but I was happy with eating a meal fit for a lumberjack and watching hummingbirds come to the feeders around the railings. After breakie we went to Damali Farms to see lots of lavender and a kazillion bees!

Dropped the car off by 8 to get cracked windshield replaced. Biked home through Beacon Hill Park. Peahen sticking her neck out to tease old Mr. Peacock. Almost finished current glass project. Hmm, might just name it 'Current'.?!
Walked back through downtown to pick up car. Stops along the way included lunch at Il Covo Trattori, menu check at the Gatsby, and architecture shots of the Swan Hotel, Janion Building & bridge construction, and an old foundry/laundry. Goose-stepping geese! With wings & feathers for flying, and webbed feet for swimming, why do geese walk so much??
We parked the car at the end of the Victoria airport, unloaded our bikes and rode the 9 km Flight Path bike trail. Lunch in Sidney followed by a visit to Marsh Farm for berry & pea picking. Evening walk was bright & brisk. I call this the Seawall beach. Carnival Miracle is in port today. I am still working on my glass project and the crew is hard at the balcony renos.
Breakie with a view & friendly staff. Found out the ocals here play kayak water polo of the full contact variety in the little harbour on Thursday evenings!
Drove to the tip of East Sooke. Looked down on Whiffen Spit, where we have walked several times. Played with camera settings. Mount Baker was in prime view today. Making more glass progress. Took time to admire Jan's roses. Rode the Galloping Goose as far as Glen Lake. Picture perfect kind of summer day! Some pics are captioned
Morning visit to Marsh Farm. Turkey vulture close enough that I think we were watching the same lizard sunning on the raised garden box!
Thanks, JackStore, I had a fine time at the Harbourcats game. Played with Olympus Tough camera settings, including "art" effects that used to be after shutter enhancements. Work on balconies continues today. I biked up the Lochside Trail as far as Mattock's Farm. Along the way, a tree chipping machine made big noises and scared a doe & her 2 fawns out of their daytime resting-hiding place, and onto the trail, which in this area shares a roadway with autos. As this family was moving along, they scared another doe & her fawn from the all grass in another yard. Evening walk to the Inner Harbour. EARLY this morning, the lift arrived. At a more reasonable time, the new crew arrived and REAL renovation work started on the Building One balconies. YAY!
Some progress pics of my current doodling in glass project - replacing 4 panels in an OLD window frame. Evening walk through Ogden Point Terminal & along Dallas Road. Came upon a STUPID sign painted on a brick walkway. I mean, really!, you CANNOT float your boat here. Rust, flowers, and horses always get my attention. It was windy, but the crossing was smooth on our trip back to Vancouver Island. We stopped at Marsh Farm on the way home to pick berries & beans. Jan sighted a red dragonfly and a beautiful moth that I later found out is a rare to here Garden Tiger Moth.
