Up the Goose, again. Under rusty overpasses. Stopped to eat blackberries off the bushes. Stopped to connect with wifi at Atkin's Station. Stopped to chat with fans of their electric bikes.
Needed a place to have our picnic sushi lunch. Explored Dominion Brook Park in North Saanich for the first time.
Driving home after a lovely barbeque at Katy's, I detoured to the lookout on King George Terrace do catch the dusk colors.
Day tripping to mid-island. Breakfast at Malahat Chalet. Up to Coombs for a peek at Goats on the Roof and a fish taco at the Taqueria. The rusty lawn ornament were a bonus at the garden shop there, but the main rust I was expecting to encounter on this trip was just down the road a bit at Demxx salvage yard. It did not disappoint. Dave & Pat met us there & took charge of Barry, and we continued on to Qualicum & Bowser before riving home. MalahatCoombs Old Country Market Coombs - Demxx Deconstruction Inc.
From The Center of the Universe to the edge of Metchosin, and on to Fossil Beach (past Sooke)8/20/2015 Barry was hoping to have a sticky-beak inside the Dominion Observatory at The Center of the Universe (honest, the sign says so!), but all the doors were locked. We settled for more panoramic views of the City of Victoria below us.
We took him to Esquimalt Lagoon bird sanctuary to look at herons, swans, geese & gulls, but all I pictured was a rusty pipe exposed on the beach side of the causeway. Hardly any tourists, or locals for that matter, know of or venture out to explore fossil beach located between Sooke and French Beach, so, to be different, we took Barry there. On the walk to the beach I found a garter snake skin, shed beside a log I stepped over. Barry spotted a group of seals swimming & feeding between shore & kelp beds - probably fish & crabs are on the menu. Lots of exposed fossil clam beds with bivalves & mollusks easy to see. Oh, and I had a fuzzy-wuzzy visitor on a log I sat on. Don't know what it will morph into, but it sure is a cute caterpillar. On the way home, a common sight - a deer on the lawn. Point & shoot photography out of the moon-roof. Day touring with Aussie mate Barry. Took in the 360 view fro Mount Tolmie, including a hazy view of a diminutive Mount Baker.
Liquid refreshments at the Beacon Landing in Sidney. A gorgeous thumbnail size spider in our home gardens. Supper & a walk at Fisherman's Wharf, including a new artisans' shop. The Canadian Snowbirds performed in my neighborhood tonight (Aug. 12, 2015). The show was centered on Clover point, but the jets were visible from all over Victoria and much of the Saanich Peninsula. I's sure our American friends on the Olympic Peninsula got to see some pretty close passes too. The 45 minutes of precision aeronautics just flew by (pardon pun), and my over 500pics & vids distilled down to this: No plan, just wound up at Mattick's Farm. Enjoyed ice cream free live entertainment, and watched this amazing animated windmill. |
