Nice day for a bit of a walk about. Not a lot of outdoor flowers, but some early bulbs have shot up (snowdrops & daffodils). The indoor exhibit 'Prelude to Spring' is where all the bloomin action is this season.

One of the mobile eateries we try to support has a new 'home' location in Langford.
I usually drive home through Beacon Hill Park. Today I stopped to shoot a peacock & ducks of a variety that I do not know. Filtered sunlight made for interesting and challenging conditions for trying to get images to replicate what my eyes saw.
The walk was fueled by lunch at Saltchuck Pie Co. celebrating Australia Day and Katy's birthday. We went to the new(ish) Quality Foods at Eagle Ridge in View Royal, and I LOVED this sign in the deli.
Sunny & warm (+8C), so I ambled down to the seawall. The sun on the wall makes for a very pleasant micro-climate. Quite comfortable for a rest on a bench.
The 2 houses are the ones that were moved from their former Michigan Street location a year ago. Part of the move was by barge! Anyway, looks like one of them is occupied & the other is for sale. The bathroom tile DIY project nears completion. Urban gardening - coming soon, in a former vacant lot that for years was a big hole in the ground, garden boxes are being built on Yates Street.
We went for a bit of a walk downtown while the car was getting an oil change. Just a few scenes that appealed to me. A bit of fresh air. A bit of a walk. Looked at lots of pieces of driftwood (with craft projects in mind)
Re-done! De-soldered. Re-designed. Re-cut. Re-taped. Re-soldered. Reinforced. Re-patina-ed. Re-installed!
Been thinking about incorporating glass & driftwood into 'art', and Island View Park on a Sunday afternoon seemed like a good place to go for inspiration. Didn't find what we were looking for, but as usual, there was lots to amuse us.
There were some massive drift logs with potential, but a guy would need a big chain-saw & a lot of effort to claim them. I did not know at the time, but the waterfowl just off-shore were Brant Geese. On the drive back to the Pat Bay Highway we found a flock of trumpeter swans in a farmer's field. They must be on their way north. While watching the swans, a bald eagle flew over, and I think it had a duck in its talons. The glass piece I am repairing is lad out, ready to solder. |
