One of the many sub-sets of the season we all Spring here is when these trees produce big clusters of flowers. These are in Beacon Hill Park.

This has been on my craft table for ages, waiting for me to decide how to finish it. I guess it's done now.
There are other flowers in bloom now, but tulips steal the show this week. It was still cool enough to need the heavy hoody, but the sun was out so we tried the lavender ice cream (too subtle for my taste buds).
We do not have as many whole building murals as some places, but we have some very nice ones. This one is called Lady Justice.
Lots of low clouds today as we toured around the Saanich Peninsula. Had to stop in Sidney to capture pica of the Washington State ferry that goes to Anacortes on the mainland.
Friends Bab & Merrill rode the Victoria Clipper to join us for the weekend. Yay! After getting them settled into our guest room we all walked down to the Flying Otter for lunch.
It was a perfect day to take the water taxi (pickle boat) from the inner harbour back to Fisherman's Wharf and the short walk home. It was a clear late afternoon, so we went or a short scenic drive that included a few good looks at Mount Baker. The low tide at Willows Beach was the lowest I have ever seen. I have long been a fan of the art & humour exhibited on booze bottle labels in Australia. Well, the local BC wine makers are finally proving talented as well!
Drove up to Sidney By The Sea to check out a retro sale at the Mary Winspear Centre. Neighbor Jeff had a table & Jan had some tea-cup pincushions on it.
It turned out to be a Baker view kind of day, so we stopped at Cordova Bay & Cattle point on the way home. Baker, for me, is like sunrises & sunsets - I just can't stop trying to get better shots. Parked at the dead end of the wonderfully named Robert Street and walked just a little bit of this trail . Would have had to add a layer or two of outerwear to cut the chill wind.

Re-visited Beacon Hill Park and then explored the grounds at Government House. Beacon Hill Park Lots of activity here today. The turtle log is full and there are lots of ducks in Goodacre Lake. Herons are nesting and we spent some time watching some ripping branches off trees to construct their nests. Lots of squirrels about too. Government House grounds First time walking around here. Bigger and a lot more interesting than expected. Highlight for me was seeing some garter snakes! |
