Got to Pitt Meadows and a supper out in celebration of mt niece Nikki's birthday!
A leisurely departure from home, to a mid-day ferry to the mainland. Had time to have lunch and check out the new shopping mall. Lots of big art at Tsawwassen Mills! Got to Pitt Meadows and a supper out in celebration of mt niece Nikki's birthday!

Old cars and old geezers abound!
The view of Mount Baker is from the same parking lot. The Diner food, as usual, was good. Through downtown. Across the blue bridge. Harbour road to the connector path. Across Selkirk trestle up to Switch Bridge. Lochside trail to the new protected cycle paths to get across McKenzie. Up to the Blenkinsop greenway connector. Reverse trip home except after the Blue bridge I went up Johnston to Quadra & through Beacon Hill Park to get home. AND, from the 'I wish I had a GoPro' collection, 3 biking videos. Turn the sound down (Wind noise). Every summer Thursday the town of Sidney BC closes the main street (Beacon Ave) to host an evening market. Food, crafts, wares, entertainment!
We opted for a funkier feast at Boondocks Cafe - Restaurant & Bar just a block away from the crowds. Framed posters are from that decor. Earlier in the day we drove up to the Dominion Observatory for a look down on our home area. Poster in a window advertises summer events. Top floor of the Yates Street Parkade looking across the the Coho and Laurel Point. Took the stairs with the musical railings down to our city walk and lunch at the Flying Otter.
A Facebook post from Drifted Creations drew us back to Esquimalt Lagoon Beach to see this driftwood installation for ourselves. Meet McGnarlyTheBeachEnt!
Later in the day I rode my bike as far as Switch Bridge to check out the new joiner pathway from Uptown to the existing Lochside/Galloping Goose Trails junction. Toured beyond the Mallahat to mid-island. Stopped in Coombs for a peek at the Goats On The Roof Old Country Market, and lunch of a Mexican variety. Disappointing low tide walk at Parksville Beach as there were no sand dollars to show off. The annual sand sculpture competition was also a minor downer as the creativity & intricacy of detail seemed to lack from other years. But, it was still great!
World famous! Well it may not get the global publicity one might expect from those words, but it is unique. See more here: www.victoriaharbourferry.com/tours-services/water-ballet After that we went to Saanichton for lunch - always a dilema, but today the choice was Prairie Inn over R&R. I did a solo pre-sunset harbour walk to downtown. Busy waterway, resting heron, horse carriages, killer whale topiary, seagull poo strafed windows, & the Inner Harbour Marina. When we went by Esquimalt Lagoon beach it happened to be a lowish tide, and we managed to get a few clams to squirt. Sooke & beyond was a bit cool and the tide was coming in. Treats at Shirley Delicious (selfie to show off art on the wall). No pics of our tour of the solar salt factory up Otter Point. Friday evening at the Breakwater Barge - a rare wind-free night and a decent jazz/blues band. |
