First time trying out my Dollarama Vancouver Canucks face-covering snood.
We took our poutine to go to Saxe Point Park, but the waterfront spots had too many people to suit me so we backtracked to a totally vacant area. Huge area. Great lunch. First time trying out my Dollarama Vancouver Canucks face-covering snood.

A rare conjunction of sun, moon, stars, and pandemic era errands resulted in us taking our Tommy Bahama chairs to the drift-logs & sand of the causeway at Esquimalt Lagoon.
We watched a one-legged gull dive & catch a little crab to eat. Moved on a bit & stopped to watch some pigeon guillemots swim around. Their red flipper-feet are sure visible from a distance. Clear, calm water inside the breakwater, and low tide gave us a chance to see starfish and orange sea-cucumbers. Later in the day I noticed Al on Facebook, so we tracked him down on Dallas Road & bought ice cream treats from him. I tried (& failed) to include Jan in the selfie. Today I made it across Switch Bridge & turned left onto The Galloping Goose Trail. I wanted to see the Trans-Canada highway & McKenzie Road exchange from the path. There are a lot of new concrete walls on the highway side of the trail. Not sure if they are to keep cyclists from enjoying the views, or to keep vehicle drivers from being distracted & wishing they were on bikes instead!?!
Magnificently wide & vastly expensive bike/pedestrian bridges! I went across the one over Highway 1 & explored a little on the water side of the big roads. Turned before I got to Helmcken Road & went home. Twenty km round trip this time. Well, I made it to the far side of Switch Bridge on my bike today. On the way there I stopped on Selkirk Trestle to grab a pic of the artificial island someone anchored at the bottom of Bamfield Park. On the way home I tested out the chairs in the public area beside the new bridge. The big public art that was once in Bastion Square has now been re-erected at the east side of the bridge. Tulips & Canoe is what I call it.
While Jan picked raspberries, I picked blueberries. The flowering scarlet runner beans made a good backdrop for my harvest picture!
A stop for a short walk in a lovely, peaceful waterway.
And the old shall become new again. Renovation/restoration continues at the end of Store Street. Pandemic restrictions were unheard of when this project started. Fog-banks across the water, at the feet of the Olympic Mountains in Washington State, USA, are a common sight here, and usually mean a cool wind off the water for us.
I want to ride my bicycle, I want to ride my bike...
And I did! Made it through downtown & used the new separated bike lanes; Across the new bridge & past the ship-yards, Made it as far as Switch Bridge by Uptown & decided to return home. !3.6 km round trip. Lots of room & time for extending my range. |
