The NHL chose Victoria this year for this very special event. We walked downtown to Ships Point, looked at the crowds, and went for lunch. We tried an Asian place at the Bay Centre food court. It has been on our 'gotta try this sometime' list for a long time. It did not disappoint, so it is now on our 'gotta do this again sometime list!

We shoveled the wet, heavy snow & salted our sidewalk a couple of times, and then walked out to the lighthouse. We cut short a later walk because the footing was too iffy. Much improved temperature over yesterday. Bought Pastries at uptown & ate the inside a plastic dome in a parking lot.
A ship-shipping ship pulled in overnight. One of the herons has a favourite roost tree by the float home village. Local knowledge: under the blobs of ice are fish-shaped fountain heads.
Our cold snap continues.Good for sunrise & bird watching. Kingfisher. Mergansers. Bald eagle. Peacocks (in this weather I have no patience for them finishing preening before swooping off roosts.) Cold enough long enough for people to skate on the duck pond at the bottom of Government Street (and many other formerly wet places.) pics of Beacon Hill Park frozen fountains, plus more from the Lege. Walked around the coastal bluffs to check-out some storm damage for a couple of days ago. Bright start to the day. Scotch broom, roses, & other shrubs are in bloom. Lots of snowdrops are up, with their cute white flowers. Speaking of snow, we had a squall after lunch! |
