Went to the other side of the Inner Harbour from our usual walks. Timed it as the Coho pulled in from the US of A. An otter got out of the sea & ambled uphill into the tended shrubberies. I really like the rear car-camera, but I like it better without raindrops burring the view!

Spooky, dull grey light, as fog ventured well inland. Ducks & other waterfowl didn't mind. Sun tried to illuminate the government domes, but the Coho used ship fog horns as it made its way up the inner harbour. It was almost at the dock before it oozed into view. As our world slowly opens up again, i'm starting to take pictures of eateries I want to remember to try or continue to support. We chased down the gingerbread house display before we went home via St. Ann's Academy & Bacon Hill Park. This little wasp buzzed into the lights and then landed on my left hand as I 'worked' on my desk computer. Indoors in late November! Only about half an inch log, so not very old, I reckon. Where, oh where, is your nest little buddy?
Cool display. Christmas socks for sale from a Christmas tree style display rack. I likes it. Didn't buy any, but I like the thinking behind it.
Ross Bay is a good place to custom pick bits & pieces of driftwood for artsy projects. Even with a huge increase in popularity of 'driftwood creations', we do not seem to be in imminent danger of running out of stock.
;) :) Vibrant visuals on the breakwater walk this morning. Storms are not far off. The little shorebirds are turnstones. Trust me - Jan looked them up!
Beads of water are proof that it is not long since it stopped raining, but it is not raining now, so we walk. Dallas Road to Beacon Hill Park. Strange fruit left on tree. Snow white mushrooms under snow-berry bushes. Bunch of boy peacocks privately primping together. Unidentified endangered specie.
As per our local tradition, we walk downtown when the vehicle is in for maintenance. We visited the Victoria Public Market for the first time since PPTs (Pre-Pandemic Times). Then on to the Bay Centre Mall, where the tree festival preparations are well on the way. Elsewhere than indoors it was raining steadily!
The mornings was for errands. The afternoon was for park walks. Interesting visuals on the lake, with fall leaf colors & low angle sunlight on ripples. Short video of black squirrel checking me for nuts. Fortunately, it did not climb me like a tree! Lots of folks on the Breakwater at the heat of the day. Jan moved the driftwood tree to the front garden. It was a decent morning, so we decided to visit Butchart Gardens before the 'by appointment only' Christmas season. On the drive up the peninsula, Jan noticed some big white birds on a pond, out by Michel's Farm. Maximum zoom on my Canon proved them to be swans. I reckon these are trumpeters, pausing on their southward migration.
At Butchart, the staff are well on the way to being ready with the 12 Days of Christmas displays. |
