It was a gloomy morning, but not actively raining, so we just did a lighthouse loop for steps today. Even the harbour seals look glum! Saw our first California poppies for this season.

But first, dogwoods in bloom, the Clipper coming in, continued expansion of street patios, and our own outdoor lunch. And then there were goslings & a cruise ship with great paint.
It was a very busy day at Ogden Point, with four ships arriving. There was also a little cruise ship, the Cascadia from Maple Leaf Adventures that cruised by, but did not pull into port. Anther part of the Heart Smart Walk, up the peninsula at Sidney By The Sea. Horsetail grasses. Golf bag give-ways. Arbutus tree in bloom. Another hillside transformed from green to suburban.
A short walk around our neighbourhood, as the pom-pom cherry trees drop petals.
Then, on the walk to the lighthouse, a spill response boat cruised by. And, a rarity, these days, a pay phone! Remember when... As the yellows of daffodils fade they are replaced by the purple/blues tones of Hyacinth, bluebells, & camas lilies.
On the waterways, a tug & barge were making lots of spray in the choppy waters. Looked a bit odd, so, looking at pics later, I found that it was a US Navy tugboat pulling a bunch of big antennas! Found another teacup tree in our neighbourhood. Each cup is glued to its saucer, and the saucer is labelled with name/occasion/date. Cool, too! And, I spotted the first horse-chestnut tree blossoms of the season. Yup, the hues, they are a changin'. ;) :) 'Twas an eerie morning walk to the lighthouse today. Listening for, and not hearing the fog-horn made it seem even more ominous. We have been waiting for the right conditions to visit our Chinatown to get pictures of the cherry blossoms in sunshine. That walk happened today, Saturday morning well before business hours. Downtown was looking prime. Harbour waters were flat, so reflections re amazing. Government street construction projects include expanding sidewalk/street patios and bicycle lanes. We drove to Sidney By The Sea for a walk along the waterfront. Then, on to The Butchart Gardens for a tiptoe through the tulips (separate post for flower pictures!). The sky looked promising for sunset colours, so we walked to the inner harbour & Laurel Point to ooh & ahh. Butchart Gardens is downloading Spring ver. 2022: 78% completed. :) There a thousands of tulips still in the bud stage, but many more thousands of other flowers to distract the eyes. I took my antihistamine ahead of time, and it's a good thing that I did! |
