Dahlias are prime, but roses are holding their own!
Annual pass purchase day. This is an annual event for us that used to happen around my birthday, but due to pandemic delays & extensions, now occurs close to Jan' birthday. Dahlias are prime, but roses are holding their own!

Limits were pushed. I had an idea to ride to Sooke or thereabouts today. It is farther than I remembered. I managed to push to Stickleback Cafe, but even that was a few increments past my current stamina. Several rest stops were required on the return.
It was a nice day for a ride, and it was a very nice (if overlong) ride. Great scenery & megabucks worth of trail improvements in the years since I ventured this way! Five hours & 85 km round trip - great way to end the summer riding season!. Tree leaves are changing colours. Dickybirds are fluffing feathers. Pumpkins are gathering in huge cardboard crate.
Three nice surprises at Marsh Farms today. Pea crops are still producing! Skink! Gorgeous flowers turn out to be okra! After an early morning drive to the grocery store (no shortage of jack-o-lantern pumpkins already!), I tested out new trails & equipment. OK, so the new-ish shared pedestrian/bike path (separate from vehicle traffic) has been completed for a while & I have walked it, but this was my first time on two wheels. Not too many conflicts with other users, but some folks could sure use some trail etiquette education!
The standard picnic tables at Clover Point (new this Spring) Have already been replaced with even newer heavy-duty, wheel-chair accommodating tables. I am experimenting with various thin layers of bike-wear for the weather, including a light-weight hoody to keep my ears warm! Early morning walk down Davie to Demnan before the locals get up. Had to try the Aussie breakfast pie. (Passable, but not as good as being there!) Chanced upon the Van-west Sat. AM Market - bonus! Another good ferry crossing - complete with an almost horizontal wake-rainbow!! The morning started grey & dismal. We took a False Creek Ferry (water-taxi) across to Granville Island and sauntered through the market for old times sake. Still good pastries & interesting fruit & veg. Umbrella walk to West Broadway here I left Jan to do her thing & I wandered around the False Creek walkways. Lord love a duck- it as wet! Most rain in a Vancouver day so far this year! In an act of self-preservation, & to keep my camera dry, I holed up at a Tim's & had a long drip coffee. ;) Afternoon in Vancouver. Parked the car & checked into our 19th floor suite with balcony overlooking English Bay. The weather was decent, so we walked around Davie, Denman, & Robson streets to see how things have changed in the few years since we frequented this area. One new thing is an Aussie Pie Shop on Denman. With luck, I will try a Ned Kelly pie (a breakfast pie) in the morning before we get too busy! ;)
Well, it's not a long-haul flight to a land down-under, but we are getting off of Vancouver Island for a few days. It was a very nice day for a ride on a BC Ferry from Swartz Bay to Tsawwassen. Calm waters and lovely scenery - even saw seals on shore (couldn't tell until I looked at pics on computer if they were seals or rocks!) and some whales in the distance! (Too far to get good pictures.)
