The season of daffodils is ending. Yellows fade as blues & purples take a turn in the forms of camas lilies & bluebells. Bad soil rocky outcrops are punctuated with shocks of orange poppies of the Californian persuasion. We walked to the base of Beacon Hill via Fonyo Beach where we saw heron & oystercatchers. Noticing how low a tide we had, we drove over to the clam-beds by Esquimalt Lagoon to see if we could find some squirting clams. We did! Always fun. We often see great blue herons when we go out to the breakwater, and today this big bird demonstrated stand-up-paddleboard skills as it searched for fish at low tide. Not everyone knows that we have scallops living in our local waters. That might be why one gull did not seem to know what to do with one! The mountains were crisp today, and we found gnome-homes and rusty chains on our route home. Walked to the Inner Harbour to inspect this year's landscaping efforts at the Fairmont Empress Hotel. Bonus shots of JBI and the Belleville patio mural. Crisp looking mountains and dash display! And, Jan was playing with settings on her iPhone camera.
We have walked this walk many times, but each trip has something new. Dogwoods & cherry flowers are expected, but a little Annas Hummingbird that seemed to think Jan's raincoat was a huge flower was not! It inspected her close up & personal, & then landed on a post to process the info! As we looked at the Welcome to Victoria garden to see what was planted, the new bridge raised. The Legislature grounds flower beds are a cacophony of colors. We walked a paththat we have not done for years, and re-discovered a rose-garden ith sun dial (count only the sunny hours!). Added in the last few years are a wood carving of a bear family and the Speaker's Chair. Damp, dreary weather is an opportunity to test out combinations of clothing layers. The marine mammals & birds are not fussed with it. I just want to keep my camera dry! Butchart Gardens. Our late April visit. Daffodils & narcissus are waning as tulips are becoming dominant. Another visually stunning walk. Who could ask for better fogy exercise?
We've been Pfizered! No pics of the event, but getting our first shot of vaccine was definitely the most important activity of the day. We started early, as we wanted to get shots of the morning sun shining on the cherry blossoms in Chinatown. The daffodils & totem pole are across the bridge at Songhees. I think the little song bird is a purple finch (vid with vocals below). Our walk to the Convention Centre for our late afternoon appointment at the vaccination clinic took us through Totem Park. We walked home via the legislature grounds, and admired lots of cherry trees along the way. Craft-works in progress.
A bike ride past shipyard to Switch Bridge (Uptown). A scenic drive to find Anderson Hill Park (future walks!). Delivered yard art to Katy's patio. |
