Fall foliage on trees & underfoot, combined with cool temperature (10C) to make it feel like real west coast Autumn day.
High tide & strong winds had lots of waves crashing into the breakwater & sea-wall this morning. Fall foliage on trees & underfoot, combined with cool temperature (10C) to make it feel like real west coast Autumn day.

Pinky, misty, shippy morning. On the way back from the lighthouse a trio of otters entertained us - an adult with two juvenile pups. It looked to me like some parental training was happening, as the group worked toward getting to the base of the breakwater, up one set of stairs, across the width of the breakwater & down a set of stairs to the cove on the outside of the barrier. In human terms I equated the sequence to teaching children to cross street safely! Then we walked on to Beacon Hill Park - Plants, birds, mooching squirrels, Moss Lady, and a bit of rust.
..., but still no rain!
Oh, we had a fleeting glimpse of a little mink swimming to the rocks. (Sorry, no good pics or vids of that!) :( AM walk highlight: it is barely light enough to see the harbour seal sleeping in a floating kelp raft and a heron lands on the kelp. How rude! They eye each other for a minute & the disturbed seal moves on. Second was intentional 'support local', and we got to two favourites that we avoid during tourist season. First up was Red Fish Blue Fish for a shared bowl of seafood chowder. Then on to L'Authentique for a shared large hamburger poutine. Coming & going, Halloween yard decorations vie with yard & boulevard flowers, and fall tree colours for our attention. Dropped off the car for routine maintenance at the new Mazda dealership at 8 AM and went for a zig-zaggy walk in areas I usually do not get to see. I have driven by some of these places, but I am SEEING them for the first time on foot. A rainbow over the inner harbour was the high point of my walk downtown to get my flu-shot & another covid booster shot.
Dim dawn light is not great for filming this morning. Lots of little videos of otters feeding and interacting with harbour seal. Heron perched on a tug-boat. Halloween decorations in a rose garden. More tree colours.
Yes, I like my USB rechargeable wrap-strap light. (Now I can be a target, rather than an inadvertent bump in the dark!) ;) More, different, but still typical sights of our walks. |
